The University of Alberta (Edmonton, Alberta) is continuing to support Ukrainian students impacted by Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine by providing access to domestic tuition rates for eligible students. Financial support and tuition-rate information for the 2026-2027 academic year is available for Ukrainian students who entered Canada through the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel program (CUAET), according to the university’s information for Ukrainian students.

This update is especially important for Ukrainian students who are already in Canada and planning to begin or continue post-secondary studies. While CUAET is no longer accepting new applications, many Ukrainians who already arrived in Canada through the program are still eligible to pay domestic tuition rates rather than international tuition rates, significantly reducing the financial barrier to higher education.

The policy also matters in a broader advocacy context, because this update reflects ongoing advocacy by Ukrainian student organizations and community groups across Canada. Access to domestic tuition can make university more affordable and help displaced Ukrainian students continue their education despite temporary immigration status and financial barriers.

SUSK thanks the University of Alberta for this important support and for recognizing the challenges faced by displaced Ukrainian students. By helping make education more accessible, the university is allowing young Ukrainians to continue their studies, contribute to campus life, and build long-term futures in Canada, which will benefit the nation in the long-run. For the Ukrainian Canadian community, this is a meaningful example of how advocacy can lead to practical outcomes: more affordable education, stronger community integration, and greater opportunities for Ukrainian youth affected by the war.

Students are encouraged to review the University of Alberta’s official information for Ukrainian students and consult the university’s international student advisors to confirm eligibility, enrollment requirements, study permit requirements, tuition status, and available supports.
