Why Donate?
SUSK supports more than 20 USOs at post-secondary institutions across Canada. USOs strive to promote Ukrainian language, community and culture, while also fostering a sense of belonging for Ukrainian students on campus. SUSK provides students and USOs with a variety of resources to host events, fundraise, and engage with students to maintain and strengthen their presence.
By providing a fun and inviting environment for students of Ukrainian heritage, we foster a strong and united youth network. We use this network to share opportunities ranging from scholarships, to internships, and other opportunities to link students with the Ukrainian community and develop their professional careers. Our work ensures that we involve youth in the Ukrainian community to usher in new leaders after graduation.
Amid Russia’s war, many Ukrainian students in Canada are displaced and under financial and emotional strain. Your donation funds emergency aid, mental-health supports, and education access so they can study, heal, and lead our community forward.
Our Mission
SUSK’s mission is to be the voice for Ukrainian Canadian students. We support our USOs and members by:
- providing resources
- hosting local and national events
- providing continuity for these student clubs
SUSK helps students stay motivated and connected with each other, while creating future leaders for the Ukrainian community in Canada. We all share the same fundamental goals of celebrating our Ukrainian Canadian identity, raising awareness about our community, and keeping our culture and traditions alive.
RAISING AWARENESS
- Promoting Holodomor Awareness Weeks annually across Canadian campuses
- Profiling current events in Ukraine
- Sharing information about First World War Internment – films, conferences, speakers
- Organizing film screenings on Ukrainian and Ukrainian-Canadian topics
- Promoting culture and heritage – language, art, food workshops
- Meeting with government officials for advocacy
HELPING STUDENTS THRIVE
- Providing annual funding to USOs
- Providing resources to clubs through guides and staff support
- Ensuring continuity – online membership lists, best practices, identifying and training new student leaders
- Identifying and supporting new USOs
- Hosting national conferences (‘Congress’) to develop skills and create memories
- Sharing opportunities for jobs, scholarships, internships, professional development, and networking
GIVING OUR STUDENTS A VOICE
- STUDENT–СТУДЕНТ, celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2028, is the leading publication for Ukrainian Canadian students.
- Outlining topics of importance to the Ukrainian student community
- SUSK has met with Canadian officials from all levels of government, including previous PM, of Canada
- SUSK actively meets with universities, research institutions, student bodies and other NGOs to articulate and promote a strong Ukrainian Canadian student voice
The SUSK Endowment Fund
With support from donors and partners, SUSK has doubled membership, grown Congress attendance, and raised funds beyond the Ukrainian community.
Our biggest challenge is turnover: student leaders graduate just as they hit their stride. To keep continuity, we’ve added full-time staff to train USO executives, support chapters, and build fundraising—but current resources are short-term.
We’re launching Finding Belonging, Creating Leaders, an endowment to sustain SUSK and our USOs in perpetuity. The Shevchenko Foundation manages the fund and issues charitable tax receipts. Alumni and dedicated supporters have pledged to back this campaign to the fullest of their ability.
